Reiners Contemporary Art takes part at ARCOlisboa for the first time!

The Marbella-based gallery has been selected by curators Chus Martínez and Luiza Teixeira de Freitas to be part of the Opening section at ARCOlisboa 2024.

Reiners Contemporary Art will present a project by two Brazilian artists: Dora Smék and Paúl Setúbal, on view from 23 to 26 May at the Cordoaria Nacional.

The gallery, located in the cosmopolitan city of Marbella, establishes a dialogue with the international contemporary art scene, presenting Latin American artists on art platforms around the world. The gallery's programme is committed to contemporary art and targets on young artists with an international projection whose work has a strong political and installation orientation, focusing on private and institutional collecting.

From 23 to 26 May, Reiners Contemporary Art presents at the eighth edition of ARCOlisboa, exhibiting a project by two Brazilian artists: Dora Smék and Paúl Setúbal, in the OPENING section. This space, curated by the outstanding Chus Martinez and Luiza Teixeira de Freitas, will be entitled "Le Grand Monde" and will include approximately 24 galleries.

The OPENING section at ARCO is renowned for investigating new artistic languages and spaces in order to bring current content and research to the fair.

In the words of Flor Reiners, director of the gallery: "To have been selected to participate in this section is an honour for us, as it gives us the opportunity to get closer to institutional collecting, an aspect that we value greatly in our gallery". She adds: "This year, OPENING will become more open than ever to a world that must remain receptive, willing to listen, accepting and committed to fostering a democratic culture of non-violence and peace. Each special section, even within the context of an art fair, offers an opportunity to introduce the artist to our public and to advocate the values of a caring society, capable of supporting its present and shaping its future".

About Dora Smék (Brazil, 1987). Dora Smék's work takes as its starting point the tension between limitation and liberation, containment and expansion. Her works, like a dance duet where the dancers confront rather than complement each other, suggest an attempt to constrain the body with tables and pipes, which in turn aims to free itself from these imposed limitations.

About Paúl Setúbal (Brazil, 1987). Paúl Setúbal explores the different aspects and strengths of the human body and its role as a physical entity in the world. Through his work, the importance of creating pieces that reflect the materiality of everyday life and the objects that surround us is evident. Paul's art contemplates the impermanence of life and the body, exploring how change affects us as part of the world. In addition, the artist integrates symbols of Brazilian culture and religions into his work.
